They call it a golfing tournament of a different kind with the fifth leg of the 2021 Outback Qld Masters being staged at the Hughenden Golf Club in northwest Queensland over the weekend.

Winner of the men’s tournament, Lynn McWilliam, of Kiama Golf Club was ecstatic to win in Hughenden, receiving the coveted orange jacket.  Relatively new to golf, Lynn played without a handicap in the inaugural Outback Queensland Masters in 2019 and has returned with his sights now on the million-dollar hole-in-one next weekend in Longreach.

Tanya Beck of the Roma Golf Club is playing all six events, she has been playing some great golf along the journey with a previous runners-up finish at Quilpie. She too was dancing on stage at the awards ceremony, extremely excited to finally take out the orange jacket.

“The Hughenden golf course layout and sand greens were thoroughly enjoyed by all the players with many starting to master the art of sand green golf,” said Luke Bates, “But it’s the hospitality and genuine characters of venues like Hughenden Golf Club that makes the players really enjoy the challenge and mateship of this tournament.’’ The Outback Queensland Masters is presented by Golf Australia and partnered by Tourism & Events Queensland and the PGA with six local government authorities, including this weekend with support from the Shire of Flinders.”

A number of young players also joined in on the free Junior Clinic conducted by PGA Pro, Darren Weatherall, with a number of juniors showing real enthusiasm for the game.

The Outback Queensland Masters concludes its final leg in Longreach next weekend for the million-dollar hole-in-one challenge.

Outback Queensland Masters is supported by the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland.
