Steeped with a rich pioneering and prehistoric history and an abundance of birdlife and natural wonders, Quilpie has plenty of things to keep you entertained between the legs of the Outback Queensland Masters.

1. Opal Altar

Quilpie is home to ‘The Jewel of the Outback’, the beautiful boulder opal, and you see the opal in all its glory at St. Finbarr’s Church with the spectacular Opal Altar or try your luck at the free opal fossicking area 2km west of town.

2. Rich history

Explore the Shire Museum, Military History Museum, Rail Museum and Regional Gallery with free Wi-Fi at the Quilpie Visitor Information Centre.

Listen for names such as Tully, Durack and Costello, who were among the first settlers. Hear about the struggles during flood and drought and the hardship of isolation from the people who have experienced it on the interactive compact disc at the Quilpie Shire Museum.

3. Enjoy sunset from Baldy Top Lookout

A 10-minute walk to the top of Baldy Top and you will be rewarded with complete panoramic views sure to take your breath away.

Baldy top is a magnificent boulder formation formed naturally over millions of years and is part of the Grey Range.

You have not seen the Australian Outback until you have seen it from Baldy Top!
